A couple of weeks ago, and during the staging of the Connected Kenya Summit 2023, telcos Safaricom announced the myCounty App. It is a key development that offers a single platform with shared architecture to enable every county to launch a digital services platform.

According to a statement that was shared by the carrier’s Head of ICT George Njuguna, myCounty app provides an open architecture to support services for counties, including revenue management and citizen services, that are accessible via the web, mobile, or the My County App.

Now, Makueni has taken the lead as the first county to use myCounty in its system. The platform will gradually be incorporated in all 47 counties in the upcoming months.

The myCounty platform will be accessible via multiple channels, such as USSD short code, Android and iPhone apps, and a mini-app available on the M-PESA Super App.

Aa said, the platform will be providing various county services and payment options, including parking fees, single business permit fees, market cess, land rates, property rates, and more.

Makueni County will introduce a citizen engagement channel and an online radio service to enhance its services.

myCounty App will allow users to select their county of residence which enables them to be linked to the specific county’s services for processing of requests. In addition, all users can also access services from other counties which will enable payment of parking fees and other common fees.

Besides county services, myCounty will also provide a “Sema Na Governor” feature empowering residents to engage their Governor or report issues. It will further provide key County and emergency services including requests for fire, ambulance, police and more at the tap of a button.

The telco will also host the service as part of the Safaricom Cloud, provide Big Data and Analytics Solutions, and for app users, digital receipts and electronic notifications.

“We are delighted to partner with Makueni County as they become the first devolved unit in the country to provide all their services on myCounty App.  myCounty provides individuals and organisations with a single, convenient point where they can access, manage, and pay for all county services. The service will be available for all 47 counties as a smartphone app, web portal and short code and will integrate both current and upcoming services irrespective of the County’s provider of choice, and in addition, provide a management portal,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO – Safaricom.
