The largest mobile phone service provider in Kenya, Safaricom PLC, has broken its silence following complaints from many Kenyans about M-Pesa services.
A significant number of phone users encountered difficulties when trying to use M-Pesa money transfer services on Tuesday morning as transactions were failing to go through.
Customers received a notification message, “MPESA has delays and cannot process your request. Please wait for 10 minutes before trying again,” each time they attempted transactions.
Many MPESA users took to social media platforms to express their complaints to Safaricom about the issues with sending and receiving money, seeking answers to the problem.
“MPESA is down @safaricom_care @SafaricomPLC,” Twitter user @saagyn wrote.
In response, Safaricom acknowledged that the mobile money service was experiencing disruptions and explained that the issue was being addressed.
“Hello. We regret to inform you that there is a general fault affecting M-PESA services on STK and APP. This is being given the highest priority. Sorry for any inconvenience caused,” the company responded.
The company explained that technical problems affecting mobile money services had arisen.
