Information, Communications & The Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo on Monday, March 3, 2025, held a meeting with a delegation from TikTok.
Taking to his official X account, Kabogo revealed that the TikTok delegation led by their Director of Communication had paid him a courtesy call at the Ministry Headquarters.
Following the meeting, the former Kiambu County governor pointed out that it was crucial for his ministry and TikTok to continue exploring ways to enhance collaborations.
Kabogo on boosting earnings
The collaborations, Kabogo stated, are aimed at ensuring that Kenyan creators earn competitively on the platform, just like their counterparts in other countries.
He further noted that Kenya continues to be a global leader in TikTok usage, accounting for 54% of global activity in 2023.

Moreover, Kabogo says TikTok has created immense opportunities for Kenyan content creators to monetize their creativity and reach global audiences.
“Today, I had the pleasure of meeting a delegation from TikTok, led by their Director of Communication, at the Ministry Headquarters. Kenya continues to be a global leader in TikTok usage, accounting for 54% of global activity in 2023. This platform has created immense opportunities for Kenyan content creators to monetize their creativity and reach global audiences. However, it is crucial that @MoICTKenya and TikTok continue exploring ways to enhance collaborations, ensuring that Kenyan creators earn competitively on the platform, just like their counterparts in other countries. We remain committed to fostering a thriving digital economy that benefits all Kenyans,” he stated.
In 2023, President William Ruto announced plans to meet with TikTok global CEO Shou Zi Chew and agree on Kenyan content monetization policy.
This followed a debate among Kenyans about the fastest-growing platform and its impact on the youth and the country’s economy.
However, the Chinese short-video platform clarified its plans in Kenya and the entire Sub-Saharan African region.
A section of local dailies last month reported that TikTok has been tight-lipped on Kenya and Africa content monetization plans for more than a year now.
According to TikTok’s head of sales in the region, Carl Jordan, the company does not have any monetization plans but focuses on creating communities and connecting creatives with brands.
TikTok only monetises content in South Africa across the continent. In 2024, the company (ByteDance) launched a new monetisation tool for creators to make money.
