Elbit Systems, a leading Israeli defense technology company, is redefining the future of infantry combat with its latest innovation: AI-integrated smart combat helmets designed to turn ordinary soldiers into highly connected battlefield assets. These advanced helmets combine augmented reality (AR), artificial intelligence, and real-time data sharing to give soldiers unprecedented situational awareness and faster decision-making capabilities in combat.

Known as the “IronVision Helmet System”, this technology was initially developed for tank commanders but is now being adapted for infantry and special forces. The system projects a 360-degree view of the battlefield directly onto the visor, sourced from external sensors, drones, and other reconnaissance units. This allows the soldier to “see through walls” or vehicles, analyze terrain, and spot hidden enemies—without exposing themselves to danger.

At the heart of the helmet’s functionality is its AI-powered targeting and threat detection software. Using machine learning algorithms trained on thousands of combat scenarios, the helmet can highlight enemies, identify friendly units, and suggest optimal paths or actions. It processes data in real-time, enabling the wearer to react faster than traditional visual observation would allow. In urban warfare, where enemies may be hiding behind cover or inside buildings, this capability can make the difference between life and death.

The helmet is also equipped with voice-activated controls and encrypted communications, allowing soldiers to stay connected with command units and teammates without using their hands. AI filters noise and interference, ensuring clear communication even in high-pressure environments. Integrated sensors also track the soldier’s health and alert medics if vitals drop or if trauma is detected—adding a layer of personal protection to the battlefield.

One of the most revolutionary aspects of Elbit’s helmet system is its compatibility with swarming drones. A soldier wearing the helmet can control a mini drone squad through simple visual commands and receive a live video feed directly into the visor. This allows for real-time scouting, target tracking, and area surveillance—without needing to carry bulky external monitors or laptops.

Elbit Systems is currently testing these helmets with various military units, including Israel’s elite combat divisions. There are also reports of interest from NATO allies and other countries seeking to modernize their ground forces with wearable technology that goes beyond traditional armor.

As warfare shifts toward faster, data-driven conflict, the integration of AI into soldier gear is not just a luxury—it’s becoming a necessity. Elbit’s smart helmet represents a bold step into that future, merging protection, information, and command into one wearable system. It’s a glimpse of the future battlefield, where every soldier becomes a walking command center.
