Huduma Kenya Launches Multi-Biometric System to Speed Up Services
Huduma Kenya is set to revolutionize public service delivery with the rollout of Multi-Biometric Identification (MBI) systems and real-time live capture machines. Announced by the Huduma Kenya Secretariat (HKS) on July 24, this digital transformation aims to eliminate long queues and delays in accessing crucial documents like national IDs and birth certificates.
According to Techweez, the first phase of implementation will begin at high-traffic Huduma Centres, with full deployment expected in the coming months.
How the Multi-Biometric System Will Reduce Queues
The new system integrates fingerprint and facial recognition technologies to create a more accurate and secure identity verification process. By reducing errors, fraud, and duplicate records, it will streamline document issuance.
Moreover, live capture machines will collect biometric data and photos in real time. This capability ensures that applications are processed faster—potentially allowing some documents to be collected within hours instead of weeks.
Faster Access to Government Services Through Technology
Currently, Kenyans face significant delays when applying for essential documents. With this new technology, the Huduma Kenya initiative seeks to change that by offering real-time processing and faster turnarounds. This will benefit millions who rely on Huduma Centres for over 70 essential services under one roof.
The government has not yet confirmed the nationwide launch date. However, the pilot phase will help fine-tune the process before full rollout.
