Safaricom Has Partnered with Apple to Extend M-Pesa’s Global Reach

President William Ruto visited Silicon Valley in San Francisco, where he met with Microsoft, Intel, Google and Apple tech leaders. The President noted that M-Pesa could be incorporated into Apple’s App Store for transactions. During the Kenya business roadshow, US and Kenyan companies announced $12.8 million (KSh KSh 1.9 billion) in new co-investments.

Ruto announced during the US-Kenya business roadshow in the United States (US), where he led the Kenyan delegation on an official business trip.“Safaricom is developing a partnership with Apple to integrate M-Pesa and its PayPal platform to extend M-Pesa’s transactional reach globally,” Ruto said.

Ruto joined investors drawn from different fields to leverage ways to lure them into the country. The US Government’s Prosper Africa Initiative and the US Embassy in Nairobi organised the US-Kenya business roadshow. “The roadshow highlights the business and investment potential in Kenya’s booming tech sector. The event is part of a three-city U.S.-Kenya Roadshow tour showcasing opportunities for companies exploring doing business and investing in Kenya,” read a statement from the US Embassy in part on Friday, September 15. According to Prosper Africa, the US and Kenyan companies in the agriculture sector announced $12.8 million (KSh KSh 1.9 billion) in new co-investments during the show.
