Iristel PLC has opened a branch in Kenya as it plans to expand its services across the world.The global telecommunications service provider’s Kenyan wing became the firm’s first market in Africa as it plans to extend communication solutions to the continent. “Today is an exciting day as we are pleased to bring Kenya businesses carrier grade communication solutions. We will begin with our best-in-class wholesale services and expand our product offering in the coming months,” said Bishay as quoted by Africa Tech.
The firm said it will start by providing the capability to purchase Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) trunks. Bishay noted this can be aggregated with the telco’s on-net footprint, and Direct Inward Dialing (DIDs). Iristel’s voice service The firm offers an expansive, facilities-based local telephone number coverage and inbound voice origination service. This allows over-the-top (OTT) and voice service providers the ability to offer innovative voice and messaging (SMS). Iristel’s voice service uniquely offers service providers with near-ubiquitous local service reach, network scale and routing flexibility. The company remain one of the largest and fastest-growing telecommunications firms in Canada, since its inception in 1999. It operates facilities-based voice networks extending coast-to-coast-to-coast and operates internationally.
Safaricom enters Ethiopia market
Iristel expansion came at a time Kenya’s leading telco is expanding its growth in Africa. Safaricom received a licence to operate in Ethiopia’s telecommunication sector in 2021 after the firm’s bid was accepted. The firm set up a pilot customer service operation in Dire Dawa city ahead of its official launch in October 2022. The telco planned to set base in 25 cities across Ethiopia by 2023 as it endeavours to transform lives for a digital future.
