YouTube has introduced a new feature that uses artificial intelligence to create video summaries. This tool aims to help users decide what to watch more quickly. Instead of watching long intros, viewers can now read a short summary before clicking. This change marks another step in YouTube’s plan to improve its overall user experience.

The AI-powered summaries started appearing on select videos in May 2025. According to YouTube, the tool does not replace creator-written descriptions. Rather, it provides an additional quick overview of the video’s content. This way, users can preview the video more efficiently and decide if it fits their interests.

Importantly, creators still have full control over their original descriptions. YouTube assures that the AI summaries are optional and designed to complement existing content. In addition, the platform plans to roll out the feature more widely throughout 2025, depending on user feedback.

The summaries currently support English content, but YouTube says other languages are in development. Viewers can see the summaries below the video thumbnails on both desktop and mobile versions. This approach helps reduce decision fatigue by offering key takeaways at a glance.

For example, if a user is browsing educational content, they can scan through multiple AI summaries to find the most relevant video. This is especially useful for tutorials, reviews, and product demos. Moreover, it can cut down wasted time spent opening and skipping through irrelevant videos.

The feature also aligns with Google’s broader use of AI across platforms. With tools like Google Bard and AI-generated search summaries, the company is clearly investing in time-saving solutions. Adding summaries to YouTube strengthens this ecosystem and makes discovery easier.

Some users have already praised the update on social media. They note

how useful it is when browsing long-form content or new creators. However, a few raised concerns about accuracy. YouTube confirmed it will keep improving the summaries with machine learning and user feedback.

As digital content grows, finding the right video quickly becomes more valuable. AI-powered summaries bring structure to YouTube’s massive library and make video watching smarter. This feature could become a standard for all major content platforms in the near future.
