Reddit’s Bold Push into Human-Centered Search

Merging AI With Native Tools for a Smarter Experience

Reddit is reimagining its platform. In its Q2 2025 earnings call, CEO Steve Huffman announced that the company is combining its AI-powered Reddit Answers with traditional search. The aim is to deliver a unified system rooted in real conversations and driven by artificial intelligence.

This strategic move reflects shifting user behavior. Millions already include the term “Reddit” in Google searches to access authentic advice and community-driven insights. Reddit now wants users to find those answers directly on its own platform.

Inside Reddit’s Human-Centered Search Vision

Reddit Answers, launched in late 2024, utilizes large language models (LLMs) to summarize multiple Reddit threads into concise answers. It’s designed to help users save time while preserving the authenticity Reddit is known for.

The tool has seen rapid growth—scaling from 1 million to over 6 million weekly users in just a few months. Meanwhile, native Reddit search attracts more than 70 million weekly users. By merging both systems, Reddit is creating a powerful new form of human-centered search.

Taking on Big Tech with Community and AI

This innovation arrives as traditional search engines face criticism for poor-quality, AI-generated content. Reddit is seizing the moment to offer something different: a search experience built on genuine user input, enhanced by smart technology.

International growth is also underway. Reddit now supports machine translation in 23 languages, making its vast library of discussions accessible to more users worldwide.

“We’re concentrating our resources on the areas that will drive results for our most pressing needs: improving the core product, making Reddit a go-to search engine, and expanding internationally,” Huffman wrote in a shareholder letter.

Strong Financials Back the Shift

In Q2 2025, Reddit reported $500 million in revenue and $89 million in profit—its most successful quarter yet. These profits allow the company to reinvest in AI development, international expansion, and its evolving core product.

By building a truly human-centered search engine, Reddit is positioning itself not just as a community platform, but as a serious challenger to Big Tech’s dominance in search.
