Japan provides internship opportunities for Kenyan students studying AI and technology here is how to apply

Japan has invited applications from Kenyan students pursuing AI and Tech courses.

Application for the in-person internship opened on May 1 and will close on June 20 for IT Engineer applicants.

The application deadline for AI engineers is June 30.

“Exclusive opportunity for AI/tech students to come to Japan and participate in a Japanese tech company internship,” a post by the Japanese Embassy in Kenya inviting applications reads in part.

According to the internship programme schedule, applicants will undergo a coding contest between June 22 and 23 while interviews will be conducted in July.

After the coding contest, candidates will be matched with prospective companies for high-scoring participants and the selection of internship company done at the end of July.

The internship will take place between August and December lasting one month after intake.

“Students will come to Japan and begin their internship. Specific durations will be determined through discussions with the host company,” the programme

The internships in Japan for AI and Tech students programme aims to promote diversity in the recruitment of IT talents for Japanese companies and Japanese-affiliated companies.

“The programme also provides opportunities for interns from developing countries to learn about overseas business strategies, various technologies and specialised skills,” organizers said.

Applicants must have experience with IT/AI-related technical skills and must be able to communicate in English or Japanese.

They must also be citizens of Kenya.

Successful applicants will be offered support by the programme office including support for internship activities.

The office will also offer support for entry visa procedures required for participation in the internship and as well as air tickets and accommodation.

It will also handle the registration, selection and matching of candidates and lectures and training for cross-cultural communication.

Host companies and interns assigned to them will also receive support throughout the internship period.

One to five applicants will be recruited per company.

“Applicants must be able to fully commit to internships and training at companies and be available for activities scheduled according to the activity plan submitted to the administration office,” reads part of the application requirements.
