Blockchain.com is a UK company that helps people trade crypto. Now, it plans to grow in Africa. It will open an office in Nigeria by mid-2025. After that, it wants to enter Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa. Bloomberg first shared this news. The move shows how much the company believes in Africa’s potential.

This will be the first time a foreign crypto firm sets up a real office in Nigeria. As a result, local firms could face more competition. Still, this could help the whole industry grow. Owenize Odia, Blockchain.com’s Africa lead, said Nigeria is serious about crypto rules. “Getting a crypto license in Nigeria is a top goal,” he explained.
At the same time, other global firms are doing more in Africa. Coinbase is one example. Opera also launched MiniPay, a wallet app for stablecoins, on iOS in May 2025. These moves could push African leaders to make faster progress on crypto laws.

Africa’s crypto market could earn over $2.9 billion in 2025. Blockchain.com didn’t share how many users it has in Africa. However, it called Nigeria one of its fastest-growing regions. Globally, it has more than 37 million verified users.
If Blockchain.com applies for a license, it will be the first foreign firm to do so under Nigeria’s new law. In March 2025, Nigeria passed a law that gives its SEC power to manage digital assets. These assets now count as securities under the law.
Meanwhile, Ghana and Kenya are writing new crypto laws. South Africa already has rules in place. There, crypto firms must get a license to operate. Because of
this trend, more countries now see that clear rules are key to growth.
Blockchain.com’s plan to open offices and hire locally shows real commitment. In the long run, this could bring more jobs and new tools to users across Africa.
