Amazon AI Job Cuts Loom as CEO Jassy Warns of Smaller Workforce
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has told employees to embrace artificial intelligence (AI), warning of Amazon AI job cuts reducing the corporate workforce over the next few years.
In a memo on Tuesday, Jassy urged workers to stay curious about AI, saying it will bring major efficiency gains.
“We will need fewer people doing some of the jobs that are being done today, and more people doing other types of jobs,” he wrote.
AI’s Rapid Growth Spurs Job Loss Concerns
Major tech firms are accelerating AI adoption. Tools now automate tasks like coding, image creation, and content writing. Experts warn this shift could eliminate millions of jobs, especially entry-level roles.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently warned that AI might wipe out half of all entry-level white-collar jobs.
Geoffrey Hinton, known as the “Godfather of AI”, echoed that concern.
“If it can do all mundane human intellectual labor, then what new jobs is it going to create?” he asked in a podcast.
Amazon Embeds AI Across Its Business
Jassy said Amazon uses AI in nearly every part of the company. The tech helps with customer service, shopping, logistics, and advertising. Over 500,000 sellers already use Amazon’s AI to write product descriptions.
“Many of these agents have yet to be built, but make no mistake, they’re coming—and coming fast,” Jassy wrote.
He emphasized that employees who adapt will remain valuable.
Office Jobs Most at Risk
Amazon had 1.5 million employees globally in 2024. While most work in warehouses, about 350,000 hold office roles. Those corporate positions face the highest risk from automation.
Jassy made it clear: those who learn and apply AI tools will be in a better position at the company.
